Community Coffee's Cash for schools program gives out $368K

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A program to help schools supply their students with crucial learning tools celebrated 28 years by distributing more than $368,000 to 826 schools.

Community Coffee's Cash for Schools program helps Louisiana Schools get things like new textbooks, computers, playground equipment and more.

"Schools will clip barcode, UPCs from any Community branded product and redeem them at their school and then send them to us. We count them and the schools earn cash, and they can use these monies anyway they choose," said Matthew Saurage, chairman of Community Coffee.

In the 28-year history of the program, schools have generated more than $6.5 million.

Several area schools were among the top 12 earners for the 2015-2016 year are:

  • The Church Academy
  • St. Thomas More
  • St. George Catholic School
  • Mermentau Elementary
  • St. Aloysius
  • Dutchtown Primary School
  • Cypress Ridge High School
  • Zachary Elementary School
  • Sunset Acres Elementary
  • Catholic of Point Coupee
  • Moss Bluff Elementary
  • St. Genevieve School
