ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - An Ascension Parish man will spend more than 60 years behind bars after pleading guilty to a murder that happened 25 years ago.
Kenneth Lavigne, 50, was sentenced by Judge LeBlanc Monday in the 1990 killing of his aunt, Jeannie Lavigne.
Lavigne was originally ruled out as a suspect, but in 2013, DNA evidence linked him to the crime. He was arrested and charged after running to Mississippi.
In January, Lavigne pleaded guilty to manslaughter and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 21 years for manslaughter, which was the maximum incarceration time for manslaughter in 1990, and 40 years for second-degree kidnapping.
The sentences will be served consecutively.
