BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There was a full house at at an economic summit to brainstorm ideas and share blueprints for success in business.
The Baton Rouge Area Chamber organized and pulled together the Statewide Economic Development Summit. The event, which was a first of its kind in Louisiana for the last 10 years, was held Monday at L'Auberge Casino Hotel in Baton Rouge
The summit could not have come at a better time with budget cuts and bad news coming left and right.
As a key speaker, Gov. John Bel Edwards said of the state's many rich resources, its people had been the most abused.
"Education and training are synonymous with opportunity," Edwards said. "We know that our people in Louisiana will have the opportunity to compete for jobs that are going to be created here."
Edwards said for eight years, the state took more away from higher education than any state in America and it is time to give what is needed instead.
