BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - John Pope went 3-for-3 with three RBI and hit the game-winning two-run homer to highlight a five-run eighth, giving Southern an exciting 13-9 win over Prairie View Sunday and a sweep of its weekend SWAC series.

Southern (11-21, 6-11) entered the weekend on a nine-game losing streak, but Saturday's 16-5 run-rule victory over the Panthers clinched the series and gave the Jags a chance at the sweep.

The Jaguars broke on top with a five-run first inning, sparked by a Dondrayas Harris two-run single. Harris was 4-for-4 in the game with three RBI. But unlike Saturday when the Panthers (9-22, 4-13) fell behind 10-0 after Southern enjoyed a nine-run second inning, this time Prairie View rallied to tie the game 5-5 in the fourth.

And even when they trailed 8-5 in the seventh, the Panthers rallied again scoring four runs, including two on bases-loaded walks, to take a 9-8 lead.

However, Southern scored the tying run on a double steal in the bottom of the eighth when catcher Jaron Hicks d ropped the ball trying to make the tag at home plate, and Pope broke the tie one out later with his homer to make it 11-9 Jaguars.
