NFL releases Saints schedule for 2016 season

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The New Orleans Saints will play at least two regular season games during prime time on national television. That is according to the 2016 regular season schedule that was announced by the NFL Thursday evening.

The Saints will kick off their 50th season at home against the Oakland Raiders. The game on Sept. 11 will be the first season opener at home for New Orleans since 2013.

New Orleans' first prime time game of 2016 will be against the Atlanta Falcons in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Monday, September 26. The Saints' second prime time game will be on Thursday, November 17 against the Carolina Panthers. Both of the games are NFC South matchups.

The Saints will face each NFC South rivals twice, while only taking on the NFC West and AFC West teams once during the regular season.

New Orleans will play on Christmas Eve, taking on the Tampa Buccaneers for the second time in three weeks.

The Saints will end the regular season in Atlanta on Jan. 1, 2017.

That game against the Falcons will be the final regular season matchup in the Georgia Dome as Atlanta will open a new stadium in 2017.
