BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The man arrested in connection with the shooting that left two Southern University students dead and has been released from jail after posting bond.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Ernest Felton, 22, posted $90,000 bond Wednesday.

Two 19-year-old Southern University students, identified as freshman Annette January from Gary, Indiana and sophomore Lashuntae Benton from Lake Charles died, while a third victim, only identified as a 24-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Investigators said Felton allegedly exchanged gunfire with the man who was injured and that’s when detectives say both January and Benton were caught in the crossfire and killed.

Felton faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
