BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - New ribbons were added to an oak tree Tuesday night in downtown Baton Rouge.

The tree is the Survivor Tree, a living memorial to victims and survivors of crime. It is located at the end of North Boulevard and was dedicated last year thanks to the Baton Rouge Area Victims Empowered group.

Local law enforcement, survivor families and their advocates gathered around the Survivor Tree for the second year in a row during the Survivor Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Each ribbon has a story of a loved one lost to crime. However, the tree lets everyone know that no one is alone or forgotten.

They also released balloons after a ceremony at First United Methodist Church.
