BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A simple child’s toy means much more this month on the Louisiana State Capitol grounds.

A field of pinwheels is currently on display near the capitol steps. Each one represents a child’s future. The group Prevent Childhood Abuse Louisiana placed hundreds of pinwheels on Monday in honor of Childhood Abuse Prevention Month.

“For Louisiana to be successful, our children must be safe,” says Louisiana State Police Captain Doug Cain. “They must be healthy, they must be educated, and we’re committed to doing that at State Police through training our troopers.”

Captain Cain says they wear Pinwheel Blue as part of their uniforms, and that they are doing everything they can to raise awareness about the issue of child abuse.

Prevent Childhood Abuse Louisiana has a hotline for parents to connect them with help when needed. They can be reached at 1-800-CHILDREN seven days a week.
