BAKER, LA (WAFB) - The City of Baker has elected a new mayor and has filled three city council seats after a runoff election.
Darnell "DA-1" Waites beat former Baker mayor Leroy Davis in Saturday's runoff election with 61 percent of the votes.
Residents also elected three people to city council positions.
In district 2, Pete Heine beat Cleveland Thomas with 60 percent of the votes, Glenda Bryant defeated Troy Watson with 52% of the votes to claim the district 3 seat and Doris Alexander defeated Robert Young with 54% of the votes for the district 4 seat.
The candidates for mayor and city council seats entered into a runoff after the March 5 election.
