BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - As the first full week of April winds down, it's a good time to start thinking about what's coming up next week.
One thing to keep in mind is that it's 911 Operator Appreciation Week, which kicks off April 10.
The 911 operators work every hour of every day to make sure someone is on hand when an emergency strikes. And just because they're not as visible as other first responders, that does not mean their job is any less important.
"These people are the first people that you talk to when you call 911 and you need help and assistance," Mike Chutz with EMS. "And the care and assistance they provide through the phone is tremendous and it makes a big impact on the outcome in many cases, as well as an impact on crews responding to those scenes."
Since 1991, one week in April has been dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety communicators.
