BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A bill aimed at protecting Confederate monuments was shot down Wednesday at the State Capitol.
The Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee rejected the bill with a 5-4.
The bill comes as controversy continues to swirl around the removal of Confederate monuments in New Orleans. SB 245 was authored by Sen. Beth Mizell, R-Franklinton.
Earlier in the year, the company hired to take down four monuments quite after it said some of its employees received death threats.
A lawsuit to block their removal was also tossed out in court.
