EBR coroner releases year-end report

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Coroner said the heroin death problem is not going away.

EBR Coroner Dr. Beau Clark gave his year-end report Monday.

"In 2015, this past year we saw a record high of 41 cases related to heroin deaths," said Dr. Beau Clark, EBR Coroner.

According to the report, there were 28 heroin related deaths in 2014.

Clark said the parish also had 17 more accidental deaths in 2015 than in 2014.

Clark said this year marks the start of a brand new coroner's team. He is training sexual assault investigators who will roll out when a crime occurs and collect evidence and counsel victims. He vowed that the parish would do a better job on sex assault and rape cases.

In the report, Clark also said his office investigated 94 homicides compared to the 73 in 2014.
