ANGOLA, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Penitentiary investigators are reviewing two apparent inmate suicides, both happening Saturday morning.

At about 5:33 a.m., Calvin Craddock, 49, was found hanging in his cell. He was serving a life sentence for aggravated rape from St. Tammany Parish. He was assigned to the penitentiary in 2006.

Almost 5 hours later, Tarrance Carter, 36, was found hanging in his cell at about 10:20 a.m. He was a death row inmate and was charged with 1st degree murder out of Red River Parish. He had been at the Louisiana State Penitentiary since 2009.

Officials say the suicides both happened in the Camp J housing area in different parts of the unit, and do not appear related. Investigators are looking into these suicides, with preliminary information suggesting all protocols were followed.
