Crash kills Donaldsonville woman in Iberville Parish

IBERVILLE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Donaldsonville woman Saturday morning.

State Police say the crash happened just before 7:20 a.m. on LA 1 just south of White Castle.

According to State Police, 39-year-old Latisha Johnson was driving a 2007 Infinity G35 northbound on LA 1 when for unknown reasons her vehicle left the roadway and entered a shallow ditch. Johnson's vehicle then crossed a private driveway, struck a mound of topsoil, became airborne, crossed a canal, landed on its roof before coming to a rest against a large concrete block.

Johnson, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, received critical injuries. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died.

While State Police say they do not believe that impairment was a factor in the crash, a routine toxicology test was taken and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
