BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Officials said one person was taken to the hospital after a fire started in the kitchen of a home Tuesday evening.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened on Amarillo Street just before 8 p.m. Amarillo is located off Plank Road just north of Hollywood Street. Authorities said the fire caused
Curt Monte with BRFD said investigators determined the fire started because someone was not watching a pot on the stove. He added firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the kitchen and dining room, but the rest of the home has smoke and water damage.
According to Monte, the five people in the home made it out of the house, but one of them was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The Red Cross was called to help the family.
