HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) -

Representatives in Tangipahoa Parish are encouraging victims of the recent flooding in their communities to consider their recovery options.

Robby Miller, the Tangipahoa Parish President, says any residents who would like to look into elevating their home can do so at www.tangipahoa.org to fill out a preliminary application.

The parish is also opening a disaster recovery center at the Parish Planning Commission on 42271 S. Morrison Boulevard in Hammond. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays until further notice.

It is not necessary to visit a center to register for federal disaster assistance. Do do that, you may also go online to www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362.
