BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two suspects were arrested after a shootout involving East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Deputies happened outside of a nightclub early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. in the 8500 block of Greenwell Springs Road.
A probable cause report from the EBRSO says 23-year-old Raheem Taylor along with four unnamed associates walked out of the nightclub following a disturbance inside. As they were walking towards their vehicle, a white pickup truck entered the parking lot and stopped near the car where Taylor was walking.
According to the EBRSO, a passenger in the truck, later learned to be 33-year-old Donald Jones, began walking towards the group with a shotgun. Taylor allegedly grabbed a pistol and fired several rounds in Jones' direction.
Two EBRSO sheriff deputies were near Jones when he began shooting and returned fire.
Afterwards, the car Jones was travelling in was stopped a by deputies a short distance away from the parking lot on Greenwell Springs Road. He and the other passengers surrendered to deputies.
Neither of the deputies were injured in the shooting.
Taylor was arrested on charges of attempted 1st degree murder of a police officer, attempted 2nd degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Jones was arrested on five counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The suspects were transported and booked into the EBR Correctional Center.
