BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Drivers crossing the Louisiana-Texas border have to spend extra time behind the wheel as I-10 has been closed for three days because of flooding and could be closed through the weekend.

Drivers are forced to take detours, adding miles to their journey. Don Clayton drove out of Texas Wednesday, taking U.S. Highway 90.

"Whenever you have to be detoured off a major interstate, the interstate is the main way of getting there from A to B," Clayton said.

Fortunately for Clayton, he drives for a company that will pay for the extra fuel costs. However, time is also a major concern.

"The clock is ticking," Clayton said. "You wanna get there as soon as possible. So yeah, it was extra time."

Antonio Betancourt came out of Houston Thursday morning. He had to take U.S. Highway 79 to get into Louisiana, and then headed south.

"I could have picked up another load," Betancourt said. "At about three o’clock, I could have picked up another load, and made some extra money, but now I’m out of time."

That extra time slows down his schedule for the rest of the day.

"Right now, I’m backed up like four or five hours," Betancourt said.
