ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Officials in Ascension Parish announced that flood debris pickup will start Tuesday (March 29) and run for one week, concluding Tuesday (April 5). The debris pickup is only for flood related items. Everyday trash will not be collected as part of this special pickup period.
They said residents may contact the parish Department of Public Works at 225-450-1301 to request a pickup. Anyone with questions can contact the parish emergency operations by phone or send an email to email@example.com.
They have divided the debris into four categories and ask people to place materials in the appropriate piles. The categories are listed below:
Vegetative: limbs, branches and other things of nature
White goods: appliances such as washers, dryers and refrigerators
Construction and demolition: carpet, sheet rock or any material removed from damaged home or yard
Electronics: computers, radios, stereos, televisions or any items with a chord.
Residents are asked to put debris near the road, but not in the way of traffic and not in ditches. Officials said debris placed more than 10 feet from the street or curb is considered on private property and will not be picked up.
They ask people to not put debris near utilities or mailboxes. Crews will not pick up hazardous materials like gasoline or propane.
