The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested a man in connection with the beating and robbery of a man Wednesday.

Police responded to a call of two black males and a white female beating a man in the 200 block of North 14th Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, the victim told them that he was attacked by three people while walking in the roadway.

The victim stated that one man hit him several times with a large 2x4 wooden fence board until he lost consciousness. When he woke up, his cell phone that was in his hand was missing.

Police say the victim was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a broken right leg and multiple lacerations to the face and head.

According to police, patrol officers later found one of the suspects, 51-year-old Leroy Wells Jr., walking from the scene near the 1400 block of Convention Street.

Police also contacted the victim at OLOL where he identified Wells as the man who hit him with the 2x4 wooden fence board.

Wells was taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he has been booked with armed robbery. His bond has been set at $75,000.
