Prairieville man sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2014 attempted murder case

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

A Prairieville man has been sentenced for his role in a 2014 attempted murder case.

Manly Gilley, 31, pleaded guilty in October 2015 to attempted 2nd degree murder.

Officials with state police say Gilley's girlfriend was involved in a verbal altercation with that turned physical when she was slapped by another woman, Gilley's cousin, who later turned out to be the victim. Officials say Gilley returned to his residence and repeatedly kicked and punched the victim in the face, knocking her unconscious. The victim was admitted into an area hospital where she was placed in a medically induced coma.

The victim sustained severe injuries, including bleeding on the brain.

Gilley faces 25 years in prison with credit for time served.
