PONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) -

People who were impacted by recent floods are in serious need of assistance and a community organization in Ponchatoula came up with one way to help out.

The Ponchatoula Jaycees partnered with other local organizations to collect, sort and distribute non-perishable food, toiletry items, furniture and school uniforms.

Volunteers were out collecting donations at Ponchatoula High Tuesday.

Those volunteers included students who were spending their spare time making sure their classmates had everything they need to get back to the books.

"It's just an incredible feeling knowing you can help so many people by just doing small stuff," said Jaci Cooper, a student at Ponchatoula High.
