GRAMERCY, LA (WAFB) - An alumina plant in Gramercy issued an updated WARN notice, potentially delaying layoffs that could hit the plant.
The Noranda Alumina plant issued a WARN Notice in mid-January, giving notice of layoffs to possibly hit the plant due to adverse conditions affecting the plant. They updated that notice on March 9, extending the potential layoff date.
Now, the plant anticipates a potential plant closure in May of 2016, resulting in 113 employees losing their jobs.
Companies are required to file Worker Adjustment Retraining Notifications, or WARN notices, if they expect to lay off a large number of workers.
