ST. AMANT, LA (WAFB) - Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle crash in which the driver died after getting thrown from a truck Sunday night.
Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Tyler Talbert, 21, of Toomsuba, Mississippi.
Troopers reported the crash happened on LA 429 east of LA 431 near St. Amant around 10 p.m.
Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said the preliminary investigation showed Talbert was headed west on LA 429 in a 2011 Chevrolet pickup. He added investigators have not yet figured out what made the truck veer off the road in a curve, but it reportedly then hit a pole and flipped.
Lee stated Talbert was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He added Talbert was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office. He also said a passenger in the truck was also not properly buckled and suffered moderate injuries. The passenger's name was not released.
Troopers said they don't know if impairment was a factor in the crash, but per protocol for deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of Talbert's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
