Your Turn: 'Unfortunately, police officers are not always right'

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

This week’s "Your Turn" segment goes to Debbie Amacker. Amacker is one of several people who went to our Facebook page to post a comment about the excessive force lawsuit against the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The jury in the case sided with the plaintiff awarding him $25,000 after he had his teeth knocked out and was strip searched. Amacker thinks that was the correct verdict. In her words:

Unfortunately, police officers are not always right. I have no more information than TV coverage, but according to the verdict and settlement along with news coverage, it would appear beyond doubt this poor man was subject to unnecessary roughness, intimidation and humiliation. Do you really think he deserved this teeth knocked out? Or to be strip searched? Obviously, the facts the public may not know said otherwise because he won his suit.

That’s Debbie Amacker’s turn. Now it’s your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to yourturn@wafb.com.
