BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Several people have thrown their name into the hat to potentially replace state Representative Ronnie Edwards.
Rep. Edwards passed away on Wednesday, February 24 at the age of 63 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Five candidates, who all registered as Democrats, have qualified to run in a special election on April 9 to fill her now vacant seat.
The list includes Tyra Banks Sterling, Edmond Jordan, Vereta Lee, Albert White and Victor Woods Junior.
Jordan, who is a Brusly attorney, and Lee, who is an East Baton Rouge School Board member, ran against Edwards last year for the House District 29 seat. Jordan and Edwards faced off in a November runoff election after making it past the October primary.
