BAYOU VISTA, LA (WAFB) - Deputies said a traffic stop resulted in the arrest of two men from out of state on several counts of identity theft and other charges.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported Gatchary Forth, 28, of Florham Park, New Jersey, and Albert Mujaj, 36, of Bronx, New York, were arrested Wednesday.
Investigators said a narcotics K-9 unit pulled over a car on US 90 in the Bayou Vista area that was following another too closely. They noted Forth was driving the vehicle.
They added one of the deputies on the scene reported seeing Mujaj, a passenger in the car, try to throw drugs under one of the deputy's units and that Mujaj originally gave a fake name.
According to SMPSO, a search of the car turned up nine fake driver's licenses from different states and eight fake insurance cards.
Deputies also reported finding receipts with names that matched those on the fake driver's licenses and more than $700 in cash believed to have been collected from using the fake identifications.
Both men were booked on nine counts of identity theft and nine counts of possession of fraudulent documents.
Forth also faces a charge of following too close.
Mujaj has additional charges of possession of Suboxone and obstruction of justice.
Officials said bond was not set.
