HOUSTON, TX - No. 7 seed Alcorn State took an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter, looking to deliver a season-ending knockout blow to No. 2 seed Southern in the quarterfinals of the Toyota Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday.
The Jaguars clawed out of the double-digit hole, outscoring the Lady Braves 21-8 in the final frame for a 61-57 win at the Toyota Center. Southern (18-10) takes on the Texas Southern/Jackson State winner at noon Friday in the tournament semifinals.
The Jags' bench outscored Alcorn 18-15 for the game, but outscored the Lady Braves 11-2 in the fourth. Briana Green led Southern with a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. All-SWAC performer Britney Washington added 10 points while Ashley Williams scored 10 points off the bench - including seven in the fourth.
