LSU's Simmons named Freshman of the Year

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Ben Simmons has been named the 2016 Freshman of the Year by USA Today.

Simmons is averaging 19.6 points per game, 11.9 rebounds per game and 5.0 assists a contest.

"He might go No. 1. He might not. But that doesn't take away from his freshman season," College Analyst Nicole Auerbach said. "He was consistently dazzling, whether or not it was him taking the ball coast-to-coast and dunking, or a jaw-dropping pass to a teammate."

Michigan State guard Denzel Valentine was named the National Player of the Year, edging out Oklahoma's Buddy Hield.

LSU is the No. 4 seed in the SEC Tournament and will play the winner of Game 3 Friday afternoon in Nashville, TN.
