BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana's statewide vote totals in the closed presidential primaries didn't offer many surprises, but a parish breakdown of Saturday's primary vote did offer some hope for campaigns striving to improve.
Ted Cruz finished first in Ascension and East Baton Rouge parishes over challenger Donald Trump. Marco Rubio finished third in most parishes.
A comparison of the early vote totals to Saturday's numbers show Cruz may have benefited from extra momentum in the last few weeks.
In EBR, Cruz had 41 percent of the vote compared to Trump at 33 percent. Cruz grabbed 42 percent of the vote in Ascension Parish followed by Donald Trump with 40 percent.
Trump scored wins in West Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes as well as winning the Republican primary statewide.
