PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) -

Plaquemine mayor Sue Gulotta is expected to return home home soon after being hospitalized last month.

A city representative says that Gulotta has been recovering well and has been moved to a rehab hospital in Baton Rouge. She also added that she is expected to return home sometime this week.

Gulotta was hospitalized February 19 after the second floor balcony collapsed at her home causing her to fall.

A passerby who saw the incident immediately called EMS who transported her to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.

Gulotta is the widow of the late Plaquemine Mayor Mark A. "Tony" Gulotta who passed away on September 10 after a massive heart attack.

Gulotta was appointed mayor after her husband's death and will serve in the position until January when a new mayor is sworn into office.
