BATON ROUGE, La. – Senior John Valek II allowed just one run on three hits in five innings of work to improve to 3-0 in sixth-ranked LSU's 15-1 victory over Fordham Saturday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The Tigers and Rams return to the field for the final game of the series at 6:30 p.m.
LSU improved to 8-2 with the win and clinched the series over Fordham. The Rams fell to 3-6 on the season.
Starting pitcher Joseph Serrapica dropped to 0-3 on the season. Serrapica allowed six runs on five hits in four innings.
In the top of the first, left fielder Beau Jordan lined a two-out double to left field to score Jake Fraley.
The Tigers added five runs in the second inning. Catcher Jordan Romero hit his second solo home run of the weekend to left field. With third baseman O'Neal Lochridge on first after a walk, second baseman Cole Freeman singled through the left side and both runners advanced on the throw.
Shortstop Kramer Robertson singled up the middle to score Lochridge and Freeman with one out. Fraley followed with a two-run home run to right-center field on the first pitch from Serrapica.
The Rams' lone run came in the fourth inning off of Valek. Left fielder Ryan McNally led off the inning with a double to center field. Catcher Justin Bardwell then hit an RBI single up the middle to plate McNally.
LSU had the bases loaded when relief pitcher Ryan Davis hit Beau Jordan, hit Bryce Jordan and walked Romero in the fifth inning. LSU added a run on a wild pitch to score Beau Jordan and another on an RBI groundout by Lochridge to score Bryce Jordan.
With runners on second and third after heads-up base running by Antoine Duplantis and Brennan Breaux, Bryce Jordan singled through the left side to score both runners. With two outs, pitcher Moshup Galbraith threw a wild pitch to score Bryce Jordan.
In the seventh inning, LSU added two more runs on an inside-the-park home run by freshman Chris Reid to push LSU's lead to 13-1.
