2 hospitalized after car drives through crowd at charity 5K race

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Two people were hospitalized after a car broke through a barricade at the Race for the Cure 5K on Saturday morning.

LSU Police says a race participant was hit by a vehicle on West Lakeshore Drive near LSU’s Sorority Row after the driver suffered from a medical issue behind the wheel and broke through a barrier before driving into the crowd.

The incident happened before 10:30 a.m.

The race participant was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. She currently remains hospitalized and we are told she is scheduled to undergo surgery. 

The driver was also hospitalized, but their condition is not known.
