BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge will be welcoming 800 men and woman to participate in this year's Louisiana Special Olympics.
The athletes have trained all year to compete in events such as tennis, basketball and bowling. But organizers say that it is not all about winning.
"You know, it's not always about the sport," says Pat Carpenter Bourgeois, President of Special Olympics Louisiana. "It's about the camaraderie that they have. It's about the empowerment that they feel."
The Louisiana Special Olympics says that they are always looking for more volunteers and coaches who can help athletes achieve their goals.
