Bond has been set for a man suspected of driving while under the influence of heroin and his girlfriend has been issued a misdemeanor summons.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Prison reported bond for Van Vincent, 34, of Baker, has been set at $28,500. His girlfriend is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Vincent was booked on the following charges:

DWI (first offense)
Reckless operation
Possession with intent to distribute meth
Possession of drug paraphernalia
No driver’s license on person
Driving under suspension
No insurance
Cancelled license plate
No motor vehicle inspection

According to the probable cause report, Vincent was pulled over by deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office on Sullivan Road near Wax Road in Central after reports of a reckless driver.

Investigators described Vincent’s behavior as erratic. They reported he was flailing his arms, his speech was incoherent at times and he could not stand in one place without moving his legs.

The report stated Vincent told deputies he had injected heroin and methamphetamine before getting behind the wheel of the car. It added Vincent claimed he was trying to get his pregnant fiance to the hospital.

"He stated she was 6 months pregnant and had consumed the same drugs he had," according to the probable cause report. "He stated she was having a bad reaction to the drugs, so she needed medical attention."

Deputies said they found several syringes, a digital scale and crystal meth. They added Vincent told them the meth was his, but he was holding it for a friend.

Authorities said Vincent’s impairment got worse and he lost consciousness. An ambulance drove him to the hospital where he reportedly claimed to have smoked marijuana and took a pill “like Xanax,” in addition to the other drugs.

He was booked into the parish prison once he was discharged.
