NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - The U.S. Coast Guard found a fisherman it was searching for near the Chandeleur Islands in Louisiana Monday.
The Coast Guard airplane crews first searched for Thanh Tran along the Intracoastal Waterway between Abbeville, Louisiana and Biloxi, Mississippi.
A helicopter crew spotted the Tina H anchored west of the Chandeleur Islands. Tran and a crewmember were hoisted and returned to New Orleans.
The Coast Guard said that no injuries were reported.
When the search began, Tran was last seen on Tina H., a 48-foot fishing vessel that was described as white with blue details, in Abbeville Tuesday and was last heard from on his cellphone Thursday.
"As a result of his communications with his family members, the Coast Guard has a general area to focus its search efforts," said Lt. Nicholas Greaver, command duty officer for Coast Guard District Eight. "This situation highlights the importance of filing a float plan before getting underway, which would help to narrow down the search area required to locate a missing boater."
