BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Jury selection is underway in the trial of a man accused of shooting two people, killing one of them, almost two years ago.
Brandon Boyd, 19, of Baton Rouge, is suspected of shooting and killing Emanuelle Myles, 24, on March 18, 2014. Another man was shot in the same incident but survived. His name was not released.
Boyd was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder by an East Baton Rouge grand jury on June 19, 2014. If convicted of second-degree murder, he faces life in prison.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shooting happened at the scene of a fight involving four people in a parking lot on La Margie Avenue.
Boyd, who investigators said was not involved in the fight, allegedly fired multiple times into the crowd, hitting Myles in the head and the other man in the arm. Both were taken to the hospitals and Myles later died from his injuries.
Detectives said Myles was a bystander to the fight. They added the other victim was one of the four directly involved.
