BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police have new DNA evidence to thank for an arrest made in a 1996 rape case.
59-year-old Jerry Williams was arrested for allegedly raping a Denham Springs woman in February of 1996.
Police say Williams was arrested in December 2015 for an unrelated Domestic Abuse Battery charge and had to submit a DNA sample to authorities.
Investigators say his DNA was a match for evidence found in the 1996 rape case. Williams was questioned during the rape investigation, but never faced any charges.
Williams is now being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a forcible rape charge.
