BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Family and friends of an accidental shooting victim came together to remember the high school student whose life was cut short one week earlier.

Police say Gerald Levy died after being shot by 20-year-old Byron Devore while he was playing with a gun on his iPhone.

His family says they want Levy to be remembered for how he made others laugh and for his smile. An attendee at a balloon release to honor Levy wanted everyone to remember him by "the way he used to mess with people and make people smile."

Gerald Levy was a sophomore at McKinley High and was a part of the football and track teams. Devore faces negligent homicide charges in Levy's killing.
