Paincourtville tornado upgraded to an EF 3 with 140 mph winds

PAINCOURTVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Paincourtville tornado to an EF-3 rating, which make it the strongest on record for Assumption Parish.

The tornado took a path of 21 miles and was 300 to 350 yards wide.

    Meteorologists say 12 tornadoes touched down in Louisiana on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016. The National Weather Service says this was the worst outbreak for our area since June 7-8, 1989. In that two-day period, 19 tornadoes hit Louisiana. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew brought 14 tornadoes to Louisiana.
