LETTSWORTH, LA (WAFB) - One person is dead after a shooting in rural Pointe Coupee Parish, according to officials.
The Pointe Coupee Sheriff's Office said the victim was 25-year-old Terrell Davis.
Investigators said he was discovered Thursday morning on Church Street at Holmes Street in Lettsworth, a small community in the northern part of the parish.
Deputies said Davis was found shot to death inside a car. They added the car was still running.
"And he was a good boy and everything you know. So, I don't know what to say," said Alvin Webb, a family friend.
Family members said Davis was a proud father of three with one more on the way.
Pointe Coupee resident Sharon Davis said it's horrible that something like that could happen in Lettsworth.
In the small town, everyone knows everyone, and serious crime is pretty very few and far between. This year though, an unwelcome trend has started as deputies have investigated two homicides so far, with the most recent just two weeks ago in Batchelor.
"This is very rare," Capt. Steven Juge with the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office said. "We're a parish that sometimes goes a whole year without having a homicide. We've had two in the northern part of the parish in about a three-week period."
Deputies said technicians with the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab are on the scene gathering forensic evidence.
Investigators have not released any information about a suspect or possible motive.
The small town is left hoping someone comes forward with answers.
"Somebody should have heard something, or know something. All of the people who live here they should have heard something. Ain't nobody saying nothing so we don't know," Webb said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call PCPSO CID at 225-638-5445.
