No. 8 LSU travels to Beaumont to face undefeated Lamar

BEAUMONT, TEXAS (WAFB) -

No. 8 LSU travels to Beaumont, TX to face the undefeated Lamar Cardinals Wednesday.

The Cardinals won three games against Southeast Missouri State to start the season, winning the first two games with a score of 2-1 before sweeping the series with a 5-2 victory in game three.

Lamar beat No. 23 Arizona 13-5 on Monday upping their record to 4-0.

Cutter McDowell leads the Cardinal hitting attack with a .400 batting average. Jacoby Middleton, Reid Russell and Bryndan Arredondo are all hitting .333. Middleton and Russell lead the team with two home runs apiece.

The Cardinal pitching staff has an impressive 2.19 ERA. Jimmy Johnson, Will Hibbs, Galen Andrews and Fernando Martinez have all posted a pitching victory this season for Lamar. 

Jordan Romero is hitting .750 for the undefeated Tigers (3-0). Cole Freeman and Lochridge O'Neal are both sporting a .400 batting average and Jake Fraley is hitting .385.

Romero had a home run and 4 RBIs in the series against Cincinnati, and Jake Fraley added three triples, two stolen bases and scored five runs for the Tigers.

Austin Bain will take the mound for LSU and will face Lamar's Brent Janak. It will be the first action for both pitchers this year.

First pitch from Vincent-Beck Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
