BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities are looking for a car after an elderly man was hit by multiple vehicles and killed while trying to walk across a busy Baton Rouge highway Friday night.
Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Jerome Foreman, 88, of Kenner. Troopers said the crash happened on Airline Highway south of LA 73 around 10 p.m.
Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP said the initial investigation showed Foreman's 2006 Honda Ridgeline was parked on the shoulder of Airline and he decided to try to walk across the road. Lee added it is not yet known what prompted Foreman to attempt to cross the heavily traveled roadway.
According to Lee, evidence at the scene indicated Foreman was hit by at least two vehicles and possibly a third. He added two of the drivers stopped and waited for investigators to arrive at the scene, but the driver of at least one car did not.
It is believed that vehicle is a 2011-2013 Toyota Corolla with damage on its front bumper. Charges have not been filed against the other two drivers.
Per standard procedure for deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, blood samples were taken from Foreman and the two drivers and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Anyone with information about the crash or the third vehicle to call Troop A at 225-754-8500.
