BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department has confirmed that the 16-year-old girl who was accidentally shot by a family member at her home Thursday has died.
According to police, 16-year-old Darneisha Williams died at a local hospital Saturday afternoon.
The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday on Brady Street near North 38th Street.
Police say a 16-year-old male was playing with a gun inside of Williams' home when the gun discharged hitting Williams in the head. Police have yet to determine where the gun came from.
Williams was a student at Broadmoor High School.
In a statement Friday, the school's principal stated that the school was working to provide support to the students as they process their emotions around the tragedy.
