BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - According to Broadmoor High School officials, 16-year-old Darneisha Williams is a student at the school. She was accidentally shot in the head Thursday afternoon by a 16-year-old relative.
In a statement, the principal said the school's thoughts and prayers are with the Williams family and they're working to provide support to the students as they process their emotions around the tragedy.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported officers were called out to an incident in which a 16-year-old girl was shot inside her home on Brady Street near North 38th Street just before 5 p.m. Thursday.
According to investigators, a 16-year-old boy allegedly shot his relative in the head by accident while playing with a gun. Police have not yet determined where the gun came from.
The victim was taken to the hospital where she was last listed in critical condition.
The suspect was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention on charges of negligent injuring and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
