This week’s "Your Turn" segment goes to Tammy Pearl. Pearl reacted on our Facebook page to a news story about foster children in Baton Rouge being kept overnight in office buildings because of a shortage of foster parents.
Pearl says she is a past foster parent and she thinks the problem is with the Department of Children and Family Services. In her words:
This is so beyond frustrating to read. It took seven months for us to get our first foster child, and that was only because we contacted the Department of Children and Family Services multiple times after reading a news story about siblings who needed a home. There needs to be a very thorough review of this department. While I'm certain there are excellent employees who are doing their job, I have had more experience with individuals who are not.
