BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A St. Mary Parish man who tried to kill himself is out of the hospital and is facing charges that could put him away for a long time.
Derrick Bodin, 50, is accused of opening fire on a group of police and sheriff's deputies after a standoff on December 27, 2015. One deputy was struck in the leg. After the standoff, investigators say they found Bodin in his home with what is assumed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his face.
Authorities charged him with 18 counts of attempted murder of a police officer. The investigation continues because they found another man, 47-year-old Gayneaux Trahan, dead at the same scene.
