BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern's Devon Gale will be returning back to Louisiana in the coming weeks.
Gales, 22, is set to be released from Shepherd Center in Atlanta on Wednesday, February 24. However, he will not return until the first weekend of March, according to Gales' family.
He and his family will remain in Georgia for a final fundraiser before returning to Baton Rouge.
Gales has been at the Atlanta hospital for about five months as went through spinal cord injury rehabilitation. He was transferred there from the Athens Regional Medical Center on September 30.
Over the months, Gales has gaining movement and feeling in different areas after a severe spinal injury left his lower body paralyzed.
The former Central High standout sustained the injury during Southern's game against the University of Georgia on September 26.
A fund was set up by the Southern University System is assisting the family financially with travel and other expenses accrued while Devon was being treated in Georgia.
