BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators are collecting evidence to determine what caused a fire that caused lots of damage to a duplex and sent one person to the hospital early Thursday morning.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened on Balis Drive in Baton Rouge around 2:30 a.m.
Curt Monte with BRFD said one unit of the duplex was burning when crews arrived on the scene. He added the flames were able to get into the attic before the fire could be brought under control.
According to Monte, one of the people living in the duplex was taken to the hospital by EMS, but the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Officials said the second unit was furnished, but they don't yet know if anyone was living in it. It had mostly smoke and water damage.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
