Baton Rouge Police arrest suspect in deadly N. 31st Street shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly shooting in Baton Rouge last week.

Marcus Miller, 21, of Baton Rouge, was booked Wednesday into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm in the shooting death of Corey Boyd, 34. Miller was also booked as a fugitive from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. No bond was set.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported detectives determined Miller tried to rob Boyd when the two fought and Miller allegedly shot Boyd.

Officers found Boyd lying in the driveway of his home on North 31st Street at Boyd Avenue on February 9 around 11 p.m.. Investigators said he had been shot in the head.

Police reported Boyd was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries two days later.

Detectives want to thank the community for contacting them with information that helped lead to the arrest.

Boyd's family returned to the scene Tuesday night for a vigil in his memory.
